More control on R&D projects

VMI Group consists of specialized business units for tires, rubber, cans and care products, each with an excellent reputation in their market. The 1,200 employees worldwide are continuously lifting their industries to a higher level by delivering state-of-the-art, innovative technology that will make their customers more successful.

A step forward to more realistic project plans with more grip on resources.

At the beginning of this year, the head office in Epe requested JSR to help them taking project and resource management to the next level.

VMI initially compared a number of PPM tools and their conclusion was quickly drawn: Microsoft Project best suited their wishes and requirements. The tool is used by many of their suppliers and customers and user experience with Project Professional within VMI itself was positive. Moving forward into portfolio and resource management, it was clear that they needed to switch to Project Server, the on-premise version or directly to Project Online, the cloud version.

Moving to Project Online was the logical choice, but the IT department had to develop a best practice adopting the 'cloud' to their IT landscape. That is why we first went through an extensive checklist with IT, When all aspects were positively assessed, the 'green' light was given to setup Project Online for a number of pilot projects.

At this moment Project Online has been connected to the internal network and Active Directory within VMI. Single Sign-On is activated, so employees can easily access Project Online in a secure, centrally managed manner. All they need to do is login to the VMI network as they are used to do and they access Project Online with the same credentials. With the implementation of this solution, the foundation has been laid for expansion with future cloud-based solutions like Office 365.

Meanwhile, we are working together setting up Project Online and evaluating the configuration in a number of pilot projects. Based on the evaluations subsequent steps to be taken will be defined.

VMI is 'Moving forward' with Project Online.
